Halloween Safety Tips (2021)

Halloween Safety Tips (2021)

Approaching Halloween with the right Halloween Safety Tips can help you and those around you avoid unfortunate situations. We have gathered several Halloween Safety Tips for you to ensure your night ends with the right kind of fright.

Can others see you?

Whether your kids want to dress up as Batman or a Princess Unicorn, it’s important to make sure they are visible to others around them. Bright colors are easier to see, but if they’re Dracula or another dark character, it can be challenging for others to see them at night. If they decide to wear one of those scary dark costumes, consider using glow sticks or a flashlight to bring awareness of their presence. Reflective tape is another great option for those who don’t want to use any kind of light on their costume. Doing so will show motorists where they are when their lights shine towards you or your child.

Choose masks wisely or use face paint instead

Most kids love the idea of wearing a fun mask on Halloween. One thing to consider when choosing a mask is making sure they can see well while wearing it. We all knew the kid who wore a mask to school and fought with it the entire day because it didn’t fit properly. Having a mask that doesn’t fit well can present a number of potential hazards. When choosing a mask for you or your child, make sure the mask doesn’t limit vision. If you want to avoid potential dangers in general, a great alternative to wearing a mask is face paint. No obstruction to vision with all the fun included.

Baggy Costumes

It may not be your first thought while picking a costume out, but consider how long and how well the costume fits you or your child. Some of the costumes we choose can be a major tripping hazard. Give the costume a test drive a week or so before the big day. It’s easier to modify things a week before instead of when you’re heading out the door.

Crossing the street – Trick or Treaters and motorists

Halloween can be a very distracting time for everyone. Make sure when you’re out and about that you’re on the lookout. Those who are trick or treating should always be looking for cars while crossing the road and cars should be on the lookout for trick or treaters.

Stay in groups

Being in a group during Halloween is a great way to avoid all sorts of problems. Helping young trick or treaters stay close keeps them from venturing into the street and also keeps them from venturing to houses they shouldn’t.

Keep off the grass!

Of course, everyone wants to get to each house as fast as possible, but please stay off the grass. Going through someone’s yard can upset your neighbors but also lead to twisted ankles and other tripping injuries.

Examine treats before eating

Make sure to go through candy before diving in face first. Parents can really help with this part of the Halloween experience. Look everything over to make sure every piece is packaged commercially and not tampered with.
