Self Care Awareness Month - Tips and trick - Vero Insurance

You know what we’re coming at you with for Self-Care Awareness Month, all the tips and tricks for self-care so your life can rock!!!

Ok, let’s pump the breaks on that enthusiasm for a minute. Here are some tried and true self-care ideas that you should try during Self-Care Awareness Month.

8 Self-Care Ideas you can use during Self-Care Awareness Month

1  Eat Right – You are what you eat

You know the old saying, “garbage in, garbage out.” When you consume the right foods, you always feel your best. You could be feeling off because of too many cheese puffs and cans of coke. Or you’re like me and drink more coffee than water. If you don’t know where to begin, here’s one tip that made a massive difference for me. The next time you go shopping, don’t buy snacks or sugary drinks. If you don’t have it in the house, you can’t consume it. If you need a snack, try picking a healthier snack than the usual. Trust me, it’s a bit challenging at first, but it gets easier fast.

2  Hydrate – Waaaattttteer sucks, it really, really sucks.

Having water on hand in your favorite water bottle is the easiest way to stay hydrated. If you work at a desk like me, having a water bottle to remind you can help immensely. Sometimes getting caught up in our work can distract us from taking care of ourselves. Listed below are recommendations for how much water to drink by body weight. Always listen to your body though, even while following recommendations. If you’re drinking enough to feel your best, that’s all that matters.

3  Exercise – Get after it “Jocko Willink”

Even if I start with a case of the Mondays, I always feel better after doing some physical activity. Exercise is self-care for your physical and mental health. When you move your body, it releases endorphins, making you feel naturally happy. You don’t have to go to the gym either, doing things at home is just as beneficial. Go for a walk, do some light calisthenics, anything that gets you moving is a great start. In the beginning, exercise might make you tired. This brings us to our next topic, sleep.

4  Sleep – Length isn’t everything

Quality sleep isn’t solely based on how much you spent on a mattress. Think about what you do before your head hits the pillow. When was your last cup of coffee or drink of alcohol? Did the TV get turned off at all? Take some time to wind down before bed. A period where you’re not looking at a blue screen, and you’re not consuming anything other than water. Giving yourself the best opportunity to get some quality sleep. Reading is a great practice before bed, it can reduce stress levels making it easier to sleep. Just 6 minutes before bed can reduce stress levels by 68%, according to an article from Business Insider. Give it a shot for Self-Care Awareness Month, and let me know how it goes in the comments.

Now that we’ve covered how you can self-care for your physical self. We’ll move onto how you can self-care for your mental health. We’ll start with a very popular practice that is harder than it looks, meditation.

5  Meditation – Oooommmmm

Meditation is one of the healthiest practices for your mental health. If you find yourself being erratic, anxious, or stressed. Meditating can help you slow down the chatter in your mind. It’s a challenging exercise at first, but I’m told it gets easier. I’ve tried and failed this practice dozens of times over the past years. If you want some help with your meditation practice, check out Calm, a great app to help you start the practice of meditation. It was very beneficial in the beginning, maybe I’ll try it this month. Now that you’ve organized your thoughts let’s organize your life.

6  Organizing – Very Fung Shui

If you’re like me in any way, you’re a bit scatterbrained at times. Looking for things when I need them has always been a problem. I started with one single trick that spread to every other area of my life. I started with creating a “home” for items I use every day. Putting items in the same place every day is one less thing to think about. I started with the assumed, wallet and keys. After that, I started using it in other areas of my life. Give it a shot with the basics and see how it goes. If you find yourself looking for an item, create a home for it. Eventually you might get to a point where you eliminate unnecessary items in your home. Getting rid of unused items can free up so much clutter and space. If you decide to go all the way, you’d be a minimalist.

7  Minimalist – Simplicity is key

The less stuff you have, the easier it is to get organized, which will lower stress levels. If you use 50 different bathroom products, you know what I mean. It’s hard to find things with a drawer full of products. I personally use 8, and all of them have a home. If you use this technique in every area of life, you should never lose a thing. The peace of mind that comes with a minimalist life can be great, from what I hear.

Self Care Awareness Month – Conclusion

The meaning of self-care and its practice is different for each of us. I’ve heard it quoted by people drinking wine, while fishing, and even while taking a photo of themselves. Do what you love doing when you need it; that’s the definition of self-care. You don’t need to do all self-care ideas to be successful. Pick one and do your best, you’re getting better than the day before. If you think I missed something, mention it below.

Have a happy Self-Care Awareness Month, we hope you found these tips helpful
